The Canadian Aboriginal Writing and Arts Challenge welcomes President Clément Chartier, President Mary Simon and the Honorable John Duncan as Honorary Patrons

December 1, 2010 | The Canadian Aboriginal Writing and Arts Challenge is thrilled to announce new additions to their esteemed list of supporters. Clément Chartier, President of the Métis National Council, Mary Simon, President of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, and the Honorable John Duncan, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, join Shawn Atleo, National Chief, Assembly of First Nations, in supporting Aboriginal youth through this Challenge.

“We’re thrilled to have such well-regarded leaders in the Aboriginal community support the Challenge,” says Jeremy Diamond, Managing Director at The Historica-Dominion Institute’s National Office. “We expect this will help our efforts to reach out and engage a record number of writers and artists this year.”

An initiative of The Historica-Dominion Institute, The Canadian Aboriginal Writing and Arts Challenge invites Aboriginal writers and artists (ages 14-29) to compose or create an original work that explores an aspect of Canadian Aboriginal history. Emerging writers and artists have their work judged by the foremost in the field, including authors Joseph Boyden and Drew Hayden Taylor, and artists Kent Monkman and Stan Bevan. Winning written entries are published in Canada’s History magazine, and winning artwork is exhibited in a gallery. Finalists are awarded cash prizes of up to $2,000 and published on the program website, http://www.our-story.ca
