Aboriginal Arts & Stories is launching a new feature category for the 2015/2016 year.
Each year we receive entries that address the history and legacy of residential schools. This year we would like to highlight these entries by offering an additional two prizes for entries to the Aboriginal Arts & Stories contest that address the theme of residential schools. How has the legacy affected your life? How would you like to see the legacy of residential schools memorialized in your community or across Canada? We encourage you to submit poems, stories, plays, 2D art, plans for a memorial site, the designs of a statue or monument, fictional biographies, autobiographies, stories of how the legacy has affected your family and community, and more.
This category will have one additional prize for submissions to the art category, and one additional prize for submissions to the writing category; submissions across all three age categories of the contest will be considered for each prize.
This category will only be running for the duration of the 2015/2016 Aboriginal Arts & Stories contest.
The Youth Choice Award Winners will be chosen by a group of past finalists of the Aboriginal Arts & Stories Contest. The Youth Choice Award Winners will be selected from the top 10 winners for each of the four categories. There will be four Youth Choice Award Winners: Junior Art, Junior Writing, Senior Art, Senior Writing.
All finalists and honourable mentions will have their writing and artwork published on the contest website.
All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation acknowledging their hard work and participation in the program.
Group entries are eligible for a special prize. Past prizes have included a digital camera for the winning school or group!
