When is the deadline?
The deadline is March 31, 2012.
Can I participate?
You must be a Canadian of Aboriginal ancestry (Status, Non-Status, Inuit and Métis) and between the ages of 14-29.
What does my piece have to reflect?
We ask that your piece somehow reflect a moment or theme in Aboriginal History. Need inspiration? Take a look at some of the work of our fantastic jury members.
What type of art can I submit?
Submissions must be two-dimensional in nature, but can be a variety of media, including painting, sketching, charcoal and photography. We hope to expand the contest in future years to three-dimensional art
Do I need anything else?
You’ll need to write a 200-400 word Artist’s Statement that explains how your piece reflects or interprets the moment or theme you selected. As well, each entry needs a Participant Submission Form with your information and a reference.
How do I submit?
Please do not send final artwork. Finalists will be requested to ship their artwork for the final judging process. Submit max 5 hi-res photographs through the following methods:

What can I win?
- 1st Place Winners in each age category will receive:
- a $2000 cash prize
- an all-expenses paid trip for two to a major Canadian city to receive his or her award at a special reception with a group of esteemed Aboriginal leaders and authors
- an opportunity to have their artwork exhibited in a Canadian gallery.
- 2nd Place Finalists in each age category will receive a $1000 cash prize.
- 3rd Place Finalists in each age category will receive a $500 cash prize.
- 4th to 5th Place Finalists in each age category will each receive a $100 cash prize.
- Top winners from Labrador and Northern Manitoba are eligible for a regional $500 prize sponsored by Vale.
- All Finalists will have their artwork published on the contest website.
- All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation acknowledging their hard work and participation in the program.
- Group entries are eligible for a special classroom prize
